Years ago at the first Southeast Asia e-gaming event, I met Ibnu, an Indonesian official. In the smoking area, he handed me a pack of Dunhill cigarettes laced with cloves. “Only in Indonesia,” he said with a big smile. That warm, sweet-spicy aromatic hit stayed with me. Later I discovered how beautifully cloves dance with ginger, cinnamon, and even fresh herbs like mint, tarragon, or dill. This cookie is my little tribute to that memory.
Memory enters through the nose first.
First bite: crisp toasted oat crunch. Then warm buttery softness. Bright ginger zing wakes everything up, followed by the deep sweet-woody embrace of cinnamon and cloves. Roasted black sesame seeds pop with nutty richness while soft chamomile whispers gentle honey-floral notes. Wheat germ adds quiet nourishing earthiness.
A comforting aromatic hug from the pantry — but slightly feral.
