I stand before you today a man with no debt left outstanding. Yet I see far richer men than I with impoverished minds and hungry bellies. Men incapable of seeing beyond their feet to the legacy they may leave behind.
Now then, my irreverence for the royals can be made clear.
A boy was born in Turin and he grew to be a King. In 1861 a union was formed of all the great states of Italy. The King marched square against the Catholic Church, against Rome. Out of war emerged the Kingdom Of Italy and the papacy learned to fear mortal men more than god.
As one King dies another sorry sod takes his place. Years later another boy would be born in Predappio, and he too would ascend the ranks of government and take totalitarian rule of the Kingdom. His name was Benito..Benito Mussolini.
2000 countrymen would die in apposing him as Benito laid claim to all manor of power and wealth in sight.
In his delusion, Mussolini imagined himself a Roman Emperor and sought the legitimacy once earned by Rome's ancient nobility. It was during this time, in 1927, that a sleepy town named Borgo San Donnio was given the ancient Roman name of Fidenza.
Fidenza. Seven letter's symbolic of a dictators delusional belief that he could take for himself a past that did not belong to him. To lay claim to a domain that belonged to the public citizenry of Italy. As the wheel of the Memento Mori of Pompeii turned, so too did the fortunes of Benito Mussolini.
In the month of April..1945, nothing but a corpse remained of this misguided soul.
