BE@RBRICK x EXCALIBUR "SATOSHI"
This work is themed on the "New Space" called the blockchain. The blockchain technology is overlapped with the Shinrabansho (all things in nature) and the Enso (circle painted with a single stroke in Zen calligraphy), symbolizing "Permanence, Publicity, Authenticity".
On October 31, 2008, a paper of only 9 pages was published. The crypto asset "Bitcoin", invented by an unidentified author, Satoshi Nakamoto, is a digital currency with no specific custodian. All transaction history is recorded on blockchain, a kind of decentralized ledger technology. Blockchain excels in "Permanence, Publicity, Authenticity" due to its decentralized network operation. This feels like the latest communication technology in an advanced information society, but in reality it resembles ancient cosmic thought.
In the past, the space was a gentle but strict medium that excelled in "Permanence, Publicity, Authenticity" that was equal to all inorganic / organic matter. Eventually, organic matter became humans, kings, nations, and civilizations. From the Middle Ages to the Modern Ages, society was a centralized offline network operation that defied nature. And today, a society where offline and online intersect "dual" is an ancient dream at the farthest reaches of capitalism.
Contemporary society faces a variety of problems, including environment, race, gender, and economy. A sustainable society in the future may not be a medium decided by a specific custodian, but a world where all people can trust each other and transact in a natural relationship. A transaction watched over by the space, just A (you) and B (me). It has relational aesthetics similar to that of ancient barter before the circulation of currency, which was only issued by those in power and was somehow considered credible. In this light, the future entrusted to blockchain is too great. Satoshi Nakamoto is the dream that lurks in the "New Retro Space" on the myth of the future.
This work is dedicated to Satoshi Nakamoto.
